Manuel Neuer’s Comeback Fails Against Mainz – Sven Ulreich Likely in Goal Against Galatasaray

Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, is still awaiting his return to action after suffering a lower leg fracture. The 37-year-old will not be making his comeback in the goal for the reigning champions in their away match against FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday at 18:30, as confirmed by coach Thomas Tuchel on Friday. Instead, Sven Ulreich will once again assume the role of goalkeeper in Mainz.

“And in all likelihood also in the Champions League in Istanbul,” Tuchel said, referring to Tuesday’s match at Galatasaray, “to give Manu a few more training sessions with the team.”

He added that Neuer is “training outstandingly well and is completely free, even in his training. He feels good, he has confidence. What he would actually be missing now, we can’t offer him.” Namely, training with the central defenders, a test match.

“We can’t get all that done because we play every three days,” Tuchel said.

It is likely that Neuer will make his comeback on October 28 in the home match against Darmstadt 98.

Neuer had broken his right leg during a ski tour shortly after the preliminary round exit at the World Cup in Qatar on December 9 and has been out since then.
